1. Devon and squirrels for
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
A squirrel ran up the next tree, its claws scrabbling. Devon sighed softly, and resettled himself on his branch. Below him the road was empty, stretching through the forest.
Above, Nimbus and Maria rode the wind, watching for the Dark. He waited for their signal to move forward, casting the spell-web onto the land so the legion could follow.
The Dark could lurk beneath the shade of the branches, or burn the sky.
They flew, knowing the risk. He would follow, not merely for the triumph of the Light, but for the Ninth, for the scouts, for Nimbus, for Maria.
2. Thunderstorms, Sphinx and Nimbus for
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Outside the tower, lightning speared across the skies above Darkholm, making the pages in front of Sirini flash white. She saw the outline of black wings and a beseeching smile.
Then the thunder roared over her, making the candle quiver.
In the frame of the window, Jethavi stood, the wind blowing her blood-bright hair away from her face. With each flash of lightning, she seemed to glow, pale eyes silvery.
Sirini’s fingers clenched on her pen.
When, at last, the storm faded, Jethavi turned back into the room. “What are you studying?”
“Enemies,” said Sirini, and finally turned the page.
3. Mobile phone, plastic spork and goat for
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
There was a goat on Shadowhunter’s bridge. A large, white goat, currently trying to chew its way out of a tether made of data cables. Behind the goat, her chief engineer was scowling at the floor.
There was a spork stuck to his forehead.
Tiger looked at her exec. Riala beamed back, green wings twitching.
“Captain! Our mission was successful! We have retrieved the communications device!”
“Where is it?”
“There was one, ah, minor setback.”
“Where’s my data?”
Riala’s wings sagged. She glanced at Chief Yately.
He stopped tugging at the spork for a moment to snap, “In the goat.”
4. Young Emli, fiberglass, thermocouple, and something sonic powered for
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Rosie knew it was going to be a bad lesson when Emli drifted out of the Physics storeroom, humming and hugging her bundled up labcoat in her arms.
Mrs Khan, who was covering the lesson, was busy helping with Jess, who was on crutches.
Emli spread her finds out along the bench, smiling.
Azella leant round Ros, and poked the heap of wires and electronicky bits.
Emli slapped her hand away. “Delicate. Heat sensor.”
“That is not your coursework,” Ros whispered.
“Nope.”
“What is it, then?” Azella demanded.
Emli grinned, her blue eyes wide and happy. “Boom.”
Ros hated science.
5. shooting stars, fireflies and fairies for
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
“A shooting star!” cried Wolf, pointing over the station roof.
“It’s an aeroplane,” Emli said, rolling her eyes. Even for a boy, he was stupid.
“Is not.”
“Is too.”
“It’s not blinking. Aeroplanes blink.”
The woman sitting on the other end of the bench bent down. “Actually, dears, it’s a firefly. Why don’t you make a wish?”
“Why?” Emli asked, eyeing her suspiciously. Was she one of the Dark?
“Because fireflies are really fairies in disguise, and fairies love making nice little girls' wishes come true.”
Wolf snorted into his fist. Emli sighed. Grown ups were even stupider than boys.
*shakes finger at various people* Honestly.

Isn't it lovely to see what you can do with 100 words?

Date: 2006-05-21 05:43 pm (UTC)The last one was fun - I've never written Em at that age before.
Drabbles are great fun. It's amazing to see what you still have after you've snipped them down to size.

Date: 2006-05-21 05:52 pm (UTC)Yours was the only one that I had trouble starting with as well. I originally had it set in the timeline of written piece, with Vonre as a teacher, but it wouldn't fit. His pupil was busy throwing around 20 word long insults. ^-^;
The rest just had 'ooh, how to phrase this to be 100 words?' problems.

Date: 2006-05-21 06:49 pm (UTC)Wordy characters do make drabbles more challenging.

Date: 2006-05-21 07:01 pm (UTC)Urgh. I know. It's why I specifically mentioned that Goldie was not an acceptable character. When he visited Becca's page, I kept having to cull his speeches severely, because they went over the 3000 character limit. I'd have to cut him off mid-sentence somewhere.
Speaking of characters... Which of your stories hold Nico and Anselm, if you don't mind my asking? And is there any in particular you'd like me to start on when I get the three shelves I have left finished?

Date: 2006-05-21 07:11 pm (UTC)The only one of my Saisorhi who can shut up is Aylili, who doesn't talk at all. No moderation.
My only big project at the moment is Wind's Road. It's a WIP, though, so I understand if you're wary. The first few chapters are linked here (http://rosiphelee.livejournal.com/21440.html), but after that let me know so I can add you to the filter.

Date: 2006-05-21 07:16 pm (UTC)*chuckles* The only way I've found to shut Goldie up effectively is to tape his mouth shut. Much better when they just don't talk, though I still feel bad for Aylili.
It'll be a while before I get to them anyway, but it's nice to know where comments would be most appreciated. ^-^ Shall start there then.

Date: 2006-05-22 09:15 am (UTC)The goat, worryingly, was the easiest. Any combination of objects that daft could only be answered with Saisorhi.

Date: 2006-05-22 10:47 am (UTC)The goat was hilarious (what is it with saisorhi?!?!) and Drig's one was pretty funny too. ^_^
*restrains from asking about Shadow Hunter*
These drabbles are loads of fun to read, even if I'm restraining from letting people ask me for them...

Date: 2006-05-22 02:15 pm (UTC)I actually went and glanced at Shadow Hunter yesterday, while I was writing Drig's. I seem to have written myself into a corner with the next chapter, but I'm sure there's a way out.

Date: 2006-05-22 12:40 pm (UTC)So a fiberglass pair of crutches? *Tries vanly to see where the fiberglass is and comes up with a guess at best*
Oh and is 'electroniky' a word?
Thanks for five fun drabbles and wonders who you might be shaking your finger at??? (various people?? Ah got it the ones that disturbed you in your office while you wrote the drabbles) *beams happily at solving that one*

Date: 2006-05-23 02:08 pm (UTC)I've no idea where the fiberglass is - I was hoping to imply everything was contained in whatever pile of goodies Em pinched from the stockroom.
I did actually go and glance through Shadow Hunter after I wrote yours. I'd forgotten what fun they were at that age.

Date: 2006-05-23 09:44 am (UTC)And Devon is adorable! I really love him. Well done for not having the squirrel throw acorns at him ;) I am glad I am the only one who thought that. Then again with Saisorhi around nothing could be as silly as them.
*is rambling*
Anywho, lovely drabbles, me dear. Much fun!

Date: 2006-05-23 02:11 pm (UTC)I'd forgotten how much fun Em was at that age. Although I've never written her quite as young as in that last one. Prosaic little brat.
Thanks for commenting :) Isn't this fun?
