A rec, a regret and a challenge...

I stumbled across a link to this webcomic this afternoon and went through the entire archive in one gleeful setting. It's the story of a young girl called Antimony Carver, who's just started Year Seven at Gunnerkrigg Court, which is the sort of boarding school Mervyn Peake might have designed. The art is gorgeous, and the characters are great - I particularly love Reynardine, the sarcastic demon, and Mr Eglamore, the PE teacher/dragon slayer. Antimony/Annie deals with the problems she faces with a mixture of cool cleverness and stubbornness, and her social awkwardness (she grew up in a hospital and has never met anyone her own age) is endearing. Go, read it.
Dolores got rejected by Fantasy Magazine. :( Oh, well, I still have two other pieces out there, which seems to be the way to go. A rejection seems like less of a big deal when it's only one story among many. I need to take some time over half term to edit some of my other shorts, though.
I came across this meme through a link on the Creators' Forum over at Girl-Wonder.org. That version is for artists, but I thought it would be fun to do a writerly version too. So, I challenge you to choose one of your characters and describe them in each of the following moods:
Happy
Sad
Pleased
Angry
Confused
Tired
Shocked/Surprised
Irritated
WTF!
Triumph
Fear
Bereft
Flirty
Serious
Silly
Hollow/Blank
Incredulous
Confident
Fierce
Despondant
Drunk
Rage
Sarcastic
Disgusted
Ill
Obviously it's up to you how long you want to make each description. I'll be going for no more than a few sentences each.
Happy Saturday ^_^

Date: 2007-05-27 02:04 pm (UTC)Sorry to hear about Dolores ... but you're right, plenty more where that came from, and the longer you bombard the industry, the likelier it is they'll latch on to your stuff, eh? (I'd be interested to hear about the career progress of the first editors who rejected Pratchett. XD) Which other pieces did you send out?
Happy almost-Monday *siiigh* ...

Date: 2007-05-28 06:07 pm (UTC)Tis a nice webcomic. Much fun. *just read all the archives of it*
Like Reynardine though was vaguely disappointed, after reading his name before the comic, that there were no foxy references and the name was apparently only used for the prettyness of it. *shrugs* But then that's just me being wierd.
