When Devon had imagined ambassadorial work, it hadn't included trailing around dusty museums with flu-ridden Saisorhi.
Their guide was droning about religious artefacts. Devon didn't want to ask about any religion involving that many tentacles.
Nimbus sneezed, wings flaring. His feathers caught a stand, jolting a cluster of ugly figurines together. There was a clean, distinct crack.
“You broke a leg off,” Maria snuffled.
“Thad's nod a leg,” Nimbus replied. “Id's an abbendage.”
Devon glanced guiltily at the guide, hissing, “Stick it back on.”
“How?” Nimbus muttered, poking the statue.
“Devon,” Maria asked, frowning. “Why is the ground shaking?”
